Can the district develop its curriculum scope and sequence in a framework that integrates expectations, curriculum, assessments and results?

One of the challenges Monica Jones faces is insuring that curriculum decisions are implemented at the classroom level. To meet that challenge she leads a curriculum review team for each content area whose task is to insure that district curriculum is in alignment with district standards. A key to this process is each team’s ability to use CurriculumTracker™ to accomplish key steps in this process include creating curriculum maps, internally aligning the curriculum to insure that there are no gaps or unintended overlaps, and creating instructional/assessment activities that support one or more standards. This may be done in terms of materials already available in the school/district or when designing new instructional units specifically to address the learning identified by a particular standard. For example, teachers can create curriculum-based lessons or quizzes (address one or more standard for one or more subject area).

CurriculumTracker™ allows the district to keep this information in a dynamic database that can be easily updated, rather than in three-ring binders on shelves in curriculum offices. Critical information is then available to teachers with a mouse-click giving them the ability to utilize resources that have been aligned to specific achievement targets in daily classroom instruction and assessment. Once items are approved they can be retrieved in the Searching module by a criteria-based search or by searching by standards.

Using CurriculumTracker™ to associate curriculum with particular standards also allows Monica and other district administrators to identify how standards are being taught and assessed so that during subsequent curriculum review cycles they may identify what is working well and what needs to be improved.
