Criteria-based Search Results

Do teachers have the flexibility to modify activities or units that are a part of the resource library?
When teachers review the resources in the CurriculumTracker™ Searching module, they may decide that none of the existing resources is an exact fit with what they need to accomplish in their classroom or they may have ideas on how to improve existing activities based on prior experience. CurriculumTracker™ allows teachers to create new instructional items linked to standards just as Anne and members of the curriculum team did. Alternatively, they may wish to make an electronic copy of one of the existing items so that it can be modified. The original document remains intact in the database.
In the example above, one of Anne’s colleague (a Kindergarten teacher) has conducted a criteria-based search using the keyword “everyday”. From this results page, she can select the title of any of the found lessons, units, etc. which will open the item in the appropriate module (e.g., lessons will be opened in the Performance Assessment module). At this point, she can then change the title making the lesson her own and leaving the original unchanged. Additionally, she can select the box in the Save to My Area column which will put a copy of the instructional item in her personal storage area for later use. This will allow the teacher to use her professional judgment to make this instructional item a better fit with the needs of her students and her own teaching style. She has been able to do this without “reinventing the wheel” by tweaking and recombining things that already exist.
