Can the district provide defined achievement expectations for students at various levels? The Banner School District has spent three years defining their standards or expectations for students in all content areas and at every grade level. As Director of Curriculum and Assessment, Monica Jones has spearheaded this project working with teams of teachers, students, parents and administrators. The standards that were developed are assigned to various courses and/or grade levels. These associations was entered in CurriculumTracker™ as the project progressed. As a result, high school principal David George is able to instantly access information about what students are expected to know and do in each course taught in his school. Students like Angela Alpha and her parents also have access to this information; this helps Angie to focus on the learning that should result from each course she takes rather than just the grade. Additionally, Mr. Alpha will become familiar with the standards for the courses his daughter is taking and will appreciate the new standards-based report card from the school.
